Push of Pike 2012
Renaissance Wargaming Tournament

September 22 and 23, 2012.

A big thank you to all 12 players, especially those who traveled up from the Mainland and the Waikato. Everyone showed up, and it was a good natured fun-filled tournament all round. Appeals to the umpire were rare and reasonable, especially considering the number of inexperienced players.

Scoring was by the 100+ method. Victory points are awarded as per DBR 2.0, with an additional 100VP for breaking your opponent's army (without your own being broken).

We also trialed the scoring system (locally christened AVP or Aussie Victory Points) that has been proposed for Cancon/Worlds in January 2013. Here are the scores.

Tournament rules

• DBR normal scale
• 15mm
• Armies 1650-1700AD. We have not done this theme before, and it is broad enough to incorporate the purpose built later European armies for those that have them as well as those non-European armies that stretch to late c17 (Persians, Maori, Sri Lankan, assorted Arab, etc) and allows players with neither to morph their ECW/TYW into similar armies of the 1650's
• 450AP, "Kiwi" points
• 2 lists or 1 list. 2 lists do not have to be the same year/general/tribe etc however each variation must be used twice! The list to be used, chosen just before dice are rolled for attacker/defender
• Shot (F) get support from a second rank in close combat with shot; Sh(I) arquebus can be upgraded to Arq(O) for 5AP; Sh(I) musket can be upgraded to Mkt(O) for 5AP.
• Deployment in alternating commands; No alterations to terrain placement or flank sector size.
• 4 rounds of 4 hours each, starting at 9am and 1.30pm (unless all games in the first and/or third round finish early)
